Liquid Space, 2017

Through the mediums of photography, book arts, ceramics, and sound, Justine Highsmith creates work about our perceptions and interpretations of time. A graduate from the Pacific Northwest College of Art (BFA Intermedia, 2017), she has exhibited at Print Center New York, Blue Sky Gallery: Oregon Center for the Photographic Arts, Well Well Projects, Carnation Contemporary, and performed at PICA TBA 2019 (Mia Habib ALL — a physical poem of protest), Center for Contemporary Art and Culture, Extradition Series, Performance Works NorthWest, the Holocene, and other interdisciplinary art institutions. Highsmith was the recipient of a Print Center New York Course Award (2021), Center for Book Arts Publishing Seminar, and the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Arts grant via PICA Precipice Fund (2019-2020) for a collaborative publication series highlighting artists’ writing on the theme of “Labor.” She is the co-founder of MAP / Mad Aura Press, which prints newspapers, maps, and ephemera reporting on the untold thoughts and feelings of the natural world.
